dont make the philippines a fashion victim country!!!
In the Philippines, people never run of style. However, things tend to become more exaggerated especially with fashion.
I remember, around 2003 or so, the “boho” look became a fad. Everyone..and i mean every girl I saw that time sported a long, light, bohemian skirt….everywhere!!!
As somebody who wears skirt since the beginning of my “new” life, i told myself that will never ever wear “that” skirt again…except until the day it runs out fashion for many…”I ought to be different”… and so while everybody else is wearing that…I opt to wear this…I dont want to look like everyone else…that’s why for nth time, someone would tell me that I look weird, which in turn I take as a compliment, thank you!
Here in the U.S., fashion changes every season and that would be every three months. The “in” look is actually two seasons ahead. Which means that if it’s the end of winter, stores are now selling stuff for the spring and summer. The reason for doing so is that we try to adapt with the change of the weather. FYI, winter starts 3rd week of december-3rd week of march…then comes spring until june…..summer starts last week of june to 3rd week of september….and fall from september to 3rd week of december.
If you live in the eastcoast where it’s really freezing during the winter, then you will have to wear something to keep you warm. If you’re in LA you have to wear layers of clothes because it could be cold in the morning, warm in the afternoon, and colder in the evening.
Last time, I was devastated to hear that this thing called “pashmina” was something many so-called fashionistas were wearing that time. What the??!!!!!…….you wear that thing wrapped around your neck to protect you from the cold weather!!..Imagine some idiot wearing it in a warm, humid country, for the sake of art..as he is sweating like a pig but could care less about it. Darn!
Last year for fall, the color of the season was purple. To my surprise, in Metro Manila,
it was the color for the year— or until they get sick of it and decide to change it to green. It’s such a headache!
Before I even got here, there was this craze about the Havaianas slippers….people were so crazy about it that they made a mock slipper called Havanas or whatever!…I love those slippers…i think the quality is really good. I’ve had three of them –all were just given to me–and they’re something that would really last for years, wearing them every day. But please! many Filipinos are so obsessed with them they could almost pin the slippers onto their shirt just to let people know they’re original! Kill me!!!!! For the record, not everyone in America wears havaianas. SO don’t force yourself to buy a pair especially if you know you’re on a tight budget.
And dont forget the iphones…..Yes!!the iphone and i touch seems to make the world go round thesedays. What is it with that shit that many people fall in line for on the very first day of release? Nothwithstanding the fact that it costed a whopping amount of Php 45,000! For all our sakes, it is so not necessary to be having it especially when you are in the streets of Metro Manila. You could be a flavor of the day for snatchers lurking around trying to get a catch! You will just be lucky enough to live the next day or at least go home alive–without your precious 3G!
In a nutshell, these things you can have all you want. But you dont have to spend too much for things you really dont need. These gadgets, slippers, etc. are being bought for the need of it. Try to take into consideration the usefulness and at the same time the environment you are going to use it. Dont be stupid..Be practical…
RiverMaya Update
ok..this is for michelle…taglish nga lang…before i got into this state of boredom, the two last events i went to were kuya daniel’s concert and the 2007 14th NU rock awards..i would not miss those events for the world!..it was my first time to be at the NU rock awards…i was starstrucked but the same time i was like—”i dont have time to care if i see that bamboo has just arrived or that the vocalist of chicosci was just sitting at the backstage after an opening performance”…but really…it was awesome!!!..anyway…our first interview was with rivermaya after mark escueta–the drummer—who got a tie of best drummer with vic mercado, from bamboo…and their performance with jayson fernandez–the new addition to the band….
for a brief intro–as far i know,….rumors about rico blanco leaving the group was unclear..until we saw mark escueta at the album launch of julianne…i didnt have the courage to do the interview back then..since i thought they’re hard to reach–but turned out to be fine..he confirmed the truth ..according to mark..though not the exact words..and based on the things that i could remember–and correct me if i’m wrong–hindi naging malinaw sa grupo ang pag alis ni rico…i read in the news that rico wanted to explore his artistic side..but i dont think that it’s reason enough for him to leave a group who’s already on the verge of an international success!..one could feel that mark was in pain and that he’s trying so hard to be strong not only for himself but for the fans of rivermaya..dating back to history, the original members of the group were nathan azarcon and rico blanco…mark joined just years after..but now, mark remains to still stand up for the group together with his bandmates..after a few weeks, we were at the HUMAN fashion show where rico blanco was an endorser/designer…the media people were in dismay..i just didnt know if he really did not want to be interviewed…or whatever..basta..we did not bother anyway…
then…rivermaya had an open audition for a new member….i was able to ask mark for an update..he was at the time one of the judges for Musikhero..he said that they are looking for a new bandmate..but not necessarily a lead vocalist..as all of them will be singing already..i asked if it’s just ok for them to have a girl groupmate..and he said it was just fine…they were halfway through the audition and it was doing great..i also got to ask mr. francis reyes, the chief announcer for NU107 and a band member of the dawn..he was one of the judges in finding the perfect person o be on the band…he said that one of the qualities they were looking for is his good character aside from the fact that looks may be of big help…he was referring to jayson fernandez…who won the hearts of the judges…the girl who got in the top 12 or so..did not make it..she was, however, really talented….but she was more of a solo artist than a bandmate for maya…
and so came the NU rock awards…it was jayson’s first…and he did quite good!after they came down from the stage, i approached him and asked if we could do an interview…i was actually contented to be asking just him..but he shyly said that i got to ask their manager, ms. lizza nakpil..she was kind enough to let us interview the band in a well lighted space..:)….jayson was a typical shy boy…he was very naive…it’s really good that when he was asked how he felt upon winning..he never failed to thank God and the people who supported him..”marami ang nagtataka kung bakit si jayson ang napili nyo…” according to mark, “bakit hindi??..naging mahirap yung desisyon…”ang hinahanap lang naman namin ay yung taong mamahalin yung banda…”… i need not to elaborate….i think mark is always emotional when it comes to the band…but i can see that he is happy with the way things turned out..they are now in the process of making their new album. it will be out by january 2008. the band never fails to thank all those who supported them through thick and thin..sandwich,spongecola, parokya ni edgar, imago..they were just one of the few friends who made them feel good..and let them know that they’re always there to support…one more thing..rivermaya are in good terms with bamboo…
well..these are all for now..i just hope anyone who reads this will learn something worthwhile..:)
I HAVE INTERVIEWD ISABEL ROCES….AT LAST!!!
I’M VERY HAPPY THAT I WAS ABLE TO INTERVIEW ISABEL ROCES AT THE LEVI’S LAUNCH IN TRINOMA LAST NIGHT (OCT. 11, 2007). I THOUGHT I WOULD BE HAVING A HARD TIME AGAIN SINCE WE CAME IN LATE FOR THE SHOW. SHE WAS WEARING A GREEN AND GREY SILK BLOUSE AND JEANS..SHE HAD SIMPLE MAKE UP ON THAT MADE HER LOOK MORE GORGEOUS…
ANYWAY….THE VERY REASON WHY I WAS, LET’S SAY, DYING (?) TO INTERVIEW HER IS BECAUSE SHE IS AN ADVOCATE FOR PeTA. ASIDE FROM THE FACT THAT SHE’S MY FAVORITE LOCAL MODEL AND THAT SHE LOOKS A LOT LIKE ANGELINA JOLIE…..IT IS A RARE OPPORTUNITY FOR SOMEBODY FAMOUS TO BE DOING SOMETHING WORTHWHILE FOR HUMANITY..OR EVEN THE ENVIRONMENT. NOPE..I’M NOT A VEGETARIAN…PERSONALLY IT IS VERY HARD FOR ME…BUT AS MUCH AS I CAN… I PREFER VEGGIES OVER MEAT….AND I LOVE EATING AT BODHI’S…AND I WOULD NEVER EVER EAT BUGS BUNNY!!!WAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!OK..ENOUGH ABOUT ME…
MANY INTERNATIONAL MODELS ARE MEMBERS OF PETA: CLAUDIA SCHIFFER AND CHRISTY TURLINGTON TO NAME AFEW….I’M VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO GUESTING ISABEL IN ONE OF OUR SHOWS….AND I THANK HER A LOT FOR GIVING TIME TO ANSWER MY QUESTIONS…
angelina jolie….isabel roces
i love angelina jolie so much! but she need not to worry as i am not an obsessed fan
…anyway, i’m looking forward to meet her and do an interview.. i read she does not want to be hugged…but i’ll try to find the courage to ask her if i could give her a very big bear hug..pleasssssseeeee…..:)
here in the philippines, a fashion model looks so much like her..her name is isabel roces…i’ve seen isabel many times already..in fashion shows where we usually are invited..(thanks a lot to ms. jenny!!)…and when i finally had the guts to ask her for an interview…she smilingly said yes…but was very sorry that she had to rush because of another ramp at the coconut palace..very busy huh!..the only consolation is that she repeatedly said she owes me an interview..and because of that..i’ll be looking forward to it..i hope before i leave the country…waaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!:((
(
so far, i have interviewed ms. tweety de leon, who is still looking very pretty…., rissa samson, bubbles paraiso, ornusa cadness, jon avila…. next on my line up are raphael kiefer, brent javier and of course, isabel…watch out for that!!
kami nAPO muna ulit!!!
A new tribute album for the ever famous OPM group “APO hiking Society” has been launched today, September 4, 2007 at Mag:net Cafe, Taguig. Among the artists who joined the said album are SpongeCola, Kamikazee vs. Parokya ni Edgar, Itchyworms, Silent Sanctuary, and UP Dharma Down to name a few. One group that caught my attention though is Hilera. Why? Well, I know them as a band that plays really really loud music. But this time, singing the song ” Mahirap Magmahal sa Syota ng Iba” a little less loud was kind of..refreshing.
and the video was classic inspired, with barbershop and all..very 80’s. I havn’t interviewed them yet as of these moments. If ever I do, I’ll let you know. Anyway, tomorrow If you want to have a glimpse of my short but sweet interview with Spongecola, watch Good Morning Kuya from 4:45 am to 9am..News starts at 7am (it’s where it is included). ciao!
